Project Title: From Data to Decisions: Empowering Early Career Researchers in Spatial Modeling and Malaria Control

Project Description: The AMMnet small event grant will sponsor a symposium that builds on the success of the MAP ECR Development Program, which delivers a comprehensive learning experience through ten targeted workshops. These workshops covered key topics such as data management, coding in R, spatial data analysis, science communication and leadership. Its goal is to equip participants with the skills to analyze, visualize, and effectively communicate research results while addressing uncertainties. Participants learned to use coding languages... The AMMnet small event grant will sponsor a symposium that builds on the success of the MAP ECR Development Program, which delivers a comprehensive learning experience through ten targeted workshops. These workshops covered key topics such as data management, coding in R, spatial data analysis, science communication and leadership. Its goal is to equip participants with the skills to analyze, visualize, and effectively communicate research results while addressing uncertainties. Participants learned to use coding languages (e.g., R and HTML), adopt tools like GitHub for version control, and develop critical thinking skills, including forming research questions and translating complex data into actionable insights for stakeholders. This symposium will provide a platform for participants to present their progress and engage with analysts, modelers, and NMCP representatives. Day 1 will feature a hybrid format, inviting external mentors and trainers from the ECR program to join virtually and listen to participant presentations. By bridging the gap between researchers and decision-makers, this event strengthens regional capacity to use data for malaria control, fostering a collaborative community that ensures modeling outputs drive impactful decision-making, ultimately reducing the malaria burden. By empowering participants with skills and networks, this event builds in-country capacity and promotes data- driven solutions for reducing the malaria burden in Africa.
